During the 17th match of the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) 2024, Roston Chase pulled off a stunning catch to send Fabian Allen packing in the closing stages of Antigua and Barbuda Falcons’ chase against Saint Lucia Kings as the Falcons, chasing a target of 153, had already struggled to gain momentum, and Allen’s dismissal came as a major blow to their hopes of victory.
Roston Chase’s spectacular catch
The dramatic moment took place in the 19th over of the Falcons’ innings when Alzarri Joseph delivered a ball that forced Allen into an attempted slice. The ball swirled mid-air, but Chase, demonstrating exceptional awareness and agility, sprinted after it dived, and completed a tumbling catch mere inches off the ground. This jaw-dropping effort from Chase saw Allen depart for a disappointing 2 runs off 6 balls.

Chase, who also took the catch of Imad Wasim, once again played a pivotal role in the field as his brilliance denied the Falcons’ key big-hitter the chance to revive the innings.

Antigua and Barbuda Falcons falls short in the run-chase
Batting first, the Saint Lucia Kings posted a total of 152 for 8 in their allotted 20 overs. The standout performer for the Kings was all-rounder David Wiese, who anchored the innings with a valuable knock of 43* from 26 balls, featuring one four and four towering sixes. His composure under pressure ensured that the Kings had a competitive score on the board.
Despite Wiese’s efforts, the Kings’ batting lineup largely faltered, with wickets tumbling at regular intervals, thanks to a brilliant bowling spell by Falcons’ skipper Chris Green. Green led from the front, taking 4 wickets for 37 runs, showcasing his prowess with both bat and ball by also contributing 48 runs off 37 balls in the Falcons’ chase, which included four boundaries and a six.
However, Green’s individual heroics were not enough to propel the Falcons to victory, as they fell short of the target, managing just 126 runs for the loss of 8 wickets in their 20 overs. The disciplined bowling attack of the Saint Lucia Kings kept the pressure on the Falcons throughout their innings, with Khary Pierre emerging as the standout performer. Pierre’s superb 4-over spell yielded 3 crucial wickets, breaking the Falcons’ resistance at key moments and earning him the well-deserved Player of the Match award.
In the end, Saint Lucia Kings claimed a 26-run victory, maintaining their dominance in the CPL 2024. This win was a team effort, with the Kings’ bowling and fielding units stepping up to defend a modest total.
