The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Sunday announced India’s squad for the first Test of the two-match series against Bangladesh. The series opener will be played in Chennai from September 19-23.
Skipper Rohit Sharma will continue to lead the India squad in red-ball cricket after announcing his retirement from the T20 internationals.
The recall of Rishabh Pant, maiden chance to Yash Dayal
The most notable inclusion in the squad is the return of wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant, who has made a strong comeback after a long injury layoff. Pant, who was instrumental in India’s Test success in recent years, will be eager to make an immediate impact.
Another significant addition to the squad is the inclusion of Yash Dayal, who has earned a maiden Test call-up based on his impressive performances in domestic cricket. Dayal joins a pace attack that already includes Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj and Akash Deep.
Virat Kohli and KL Rahul return
India’s batting lineup is bolstered by the return of Virat Kohli, who missed the five-match Test series against England due to personal reasons. Kohli, one of the greatest batsmen of his generation, will be eager to contribute significantly in the series.

Bangladesh, meanwhile, will be high on confidence after their recent clean sweep over Pakistan in their away series. The tourists will be looking to carry forward that momentum and challenge India.
