In a shocking turn of events, India suffered a historic collapse in the first Test against New Zealand at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru, posting their lowest-ever total on home soil at just 46 runs. The dismal performance has drawn sharp criticism, including mockery from former England captain Michael Vaughan, who took to social media to express his disdain for the Indian team’s batting display.

India’s embarrassing collapse

India’s innings crumbled in just 31.2 overs, with New Zealand’s bowlers, particularly William O’Rourke and Matt Henry, wreaking havoc on the batting lineup. The team lost their first wicket early, with captain Rohit Sharma dismissed for 2. This was followed by a series of quick wickets, leaving India reeling at 34 runs for six wickets at lunch. The collapse surpassed India’s previous lowest Test total of 75 runs at home, recorded against the West Indies in 1987.

Michael Vaughan trolls Indian cricket fans

Michael Vaughan did not hold back in his criticism of the Indian team, mocking fans for their expectations and suggesting that the team’s batting approach was flawed.

“Look on the bright side Indian fans .. at least you have got past 36,” he remarked on X, with a teasing emoji.

The reaction from Indian fans has been mixed, with many expressing disappointment and frustration over the team’s performance. Some have taken to social media to defend their players, while others echoed Vaughan’s sentiments.

As India looks to bounce back from this humiliating collapse, they will need to regroup quickly and prevent New Zealand from building a significant lead. The team management will also shift focus towards improving the batting technique of their players, with another innings to play in the ongoing match.
