During a recent promotional event, former Indian captain MS Dhoni, renowned for his composed nature both on and off the field, recently shared a hilarious anecdote involving his wife, Sakshi, that had audiences in stitches. While watching an ODI cricket match at home, Dhoni recounted a funny moment that showcased their playful dynamic, leaving listeners thoroughly entertained.

The comical stumping misunderstanding

During an ODI, Dhoni recounted how his wife Sakshi confidently believed a batter couldn’t be stumped off a wide delivery, even after the batter had walked back. Despite Dhoni explaining the rule, Sakshi insisted the umpires would reverse the decision. Her conviction led to a humorous exchange over the rules of the game.

Dhoni explained, “We were watching a game, and Sakshi was with me. The bowler bowled a wide ball, and the batsman stepped out and was stumped. By the time she said this, the batsman had already started walking back. But my wife said it’s not out. By that time, the batsman had started walking back. But she kept saying the umpires will call him back as there can be no stumping in wide,”

Clarifying the rules of cricket to Sakshi Dhoni

The conversation took an even more entertaining turn as Dhoni attempted to explain the specific cricketing rule surrounding wide deliveries and stumping.  Dhoni humorously described trying to explain the stumping rule to his wife Sakshi, who was unconvinced and insisted he was mistaken, believing the third umpire would reverse the call. Even after Dhoni clarified that stumping on a wide is allowed but not on a no-ball, Sakshi held her stance, playfully saying, “You know nothing.”

“I told her that a stumping can happen on a wide ball, but not on a no-ball. However, Sakshi remained unconvinced, insisting that Dhoni was mistaken and that the third umpire would ultimately correct the call.  She continued, “Tumko kuch nahi pata hai (You know nothing), you just wait the third umpire will call him back,” he recounted. The banter continued until the new batsman arrived, at which point Sakshi exclaimed, “There’s something wrong,” Dhoni concluded.

MS Dhoni’s continued cricketing journey: IPL 2025 for CSK?

As the laughter from the story settled, Dhoni shifted the conversation towards his future in cricket, specifically his potential participation in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season. While he is known for his remarkable leadership and skill, Dhoni expressed his desire to continue playing and enjoying the game for as long as he can. During the promotional event for Rigi, he stated, “I wish to enjoy my playing days for how much is left,” indicating his commitment to remaining involved in the sport.

However, the uncertainty surrounding his retention by the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) adds a layer of intrigue. As per the recent amendments by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) regarding uncapped player retention, there’s speculation on whether CSK will retain Dhoni as an uncapped player due to his five years since retirement from international cricket. The prospect of Dhoni’s continued presence in the IPL excites fans, who hope to witness his iconic finishing abilities and strategic mindset on the field once again.
