With the much-anticipated Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) 2024-25 just around the corner, starting on November 22 in Perth, former cricketers and experts have started sharing their predictions, key battles, and insights. One of the latest prophecies comes from former Australian fast bowler Brett Lee. The legendary pacer has named an Indian batter who will be targeted by the Australian seamers in the upcoming Test series.

Lee spoke about the pressure on Indian batters, particularly captain Rohit Sharma and star batter Virat Kohli. With both players going through a rough patch, Lee reckoned they need to focus on improving their technique ahead of the high-pressure series. He specifically highlighted Rohit as a prime target for the Australian fast bowlers. Lee observed that the Australian pacers will attack the Indian skipper right from the start with the new ball.

“When you have a couple of bad runs back-to-back, that’s when the pressure could set in. I guess the thing now is someone like Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma just have to go back to the drawing board. Work on that technique, freshen up, get away from cricket as much as they can and then hit the ground running when they go to Australia, because I can promise you – these Australian fast bowlers will attack Rohit Sharma with that brand new ball,” Lee told Times of India.

Lee on India’s poor run and a potential comeback

Notably, Team India had a disappointing run in their last Test series against New Zealand at home. Despite playing on familiar conditions, India were completely outplayed by the Black Caps as they endured a clean sweep in the 3-match series. Lee acknowledged that such setbacks are a part of the game but felt that India would learn from their mistakes and come back stronger in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.

“This is a great learning curve for all out there. Probably not for Aussies because now they’ve got to understand that India will be much-better prepared. They are going to come in strong. They would have got a kick up the backside from their coach, Gautam Gambhir. This is atrocious, the way they played but they are still a team of champions. They have had a downfall over the last couple of weeks; it does happen in cricket,” Lee added.
