Glenn Maxwell has opened up about his release from the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) squad ahead of the IPL 2025 auction, detailing his exit meeting with the franchise’s management.

Glenn Maxwell throws light on his RCB exit

In an interview on ESPNCricinfo’s Around the Wicket show, Maxwell described the conversation with RCB’s Mo Bobat and Andy Flower as a “really beautiful exit meeting,” despite the circumstances surrounding his departure.

“I got a phone call from Mo Bobat and Andy Flower. I sat there on a Zoom call, and they sort of explained to me the decision not to be retained. And it was actually a really beautiful exit meeting, if that could be possible,” Maxwell shared. He appreciated the length of the discussion, which lasted about half an hour, during which they talked about the game and RCB’s future strategy. “I was really happy with that,” he added.

Maxwell acknowledged that RCB is undergoing significant changes, including adjustments in their coaching staff. “They were obviously changing a few of their staff as well. So they needed to get that sorted before they started talking to players,” he noted. He expressed understanding of the process, saying, “I understood that process was going to take a bit of time.”

Maxwell reflects on his time with RCB

Despite his release, Maxwell remains optimistic about his relationship with RCB and his future with the franchise. “I wouldn’t say my RCB journey’s over, but I’d certainly love to get back there. It was a great franchise to play for and I really enjoyed my time there,” he stated.

Maxwell’s tenure with RCB saw him play 52 matches, scoring 1,266 runs at an average of 27.50, including 12 half-centuries. However, his performance in IPL 2024 was disappointing, managing only 52 runs in 10 matches before taking an indefinite break due to mental and physical fatigue.

As he prepares for the IPL auction, Maxwell has set his base price at INR 2 crore and is expected to attract significant interest from franchises looking for experienced players.
