The T20I series between South Africa and India began on an exciting note as the visitors clinched an impressive victory in the opening match at Kingsmead, Durban. After putting up a formidable total of 202/8, India bowled out South Africa for 141 to secure a comfortable 61-run win. Sanju Samson was the standout performer with the bat, notching a stunning century to lead India to victory.

Suryakumar Yadav’s impressive fielding display

In addition to India’s batting and bowling prowess, their fielding also played a key role in the win. Captain Suryakumar Yadav demonstrated his sharp fielding skills with a pinpoint run-out that dismissed South Africa’s Gerald Coetzee.

The run-out occurred on the fifth delivery of the 17th over, bowled by Arshdeep Singh. South Africa’s Keshav Maharaj drove a full toss towards extra cover, where Suryakumar was stationed. As Maharaj and Coetzee hesitated mid-pitch, Suryakumar seized the opportunity, aiming a precise throw at the striker’s end. His throw hit the top of the stumps, catching Coetzee well short of his crease. The brilliant fielding effort added to India’s strong defense, and the video of the run-out quickly gained attention.

Sanju Samson’s century and India’s bowling dominate South Africa

South Africa initially won the toss and opted to bowl first. India responded with a powerful batting display, thanks to Samson’s stellar century. Samson scored 107 off just 50 balls, including 7 boundaries and 10 massive sixes, propelling India to 202/8 in their 20 overs.

In South Africa’s chase, the Indian bowlers maintained pressure, dismantling the Proteas for just 141 in 17.5 overs. Varun Chakaravarthy and Ravi Bishnoi led India’s bowling attack, each taking three wickets with figures of 3/25 and 3/28, respectively. Their combined efforts ensured that South Africa couldn’t recover from early setbacks, sealing a commanding victory for India.
