In an exhilarating display of bowling prowess, Renuka Singh Thakur of the Indian cricket team delivered a match-defining moment by dismissing West Indies captain Hayley Matthews with what can only be described as a ‘peach of a delivery’ in the 3rd Women’s One Day International (ODI) of the series.
The match, taking place at Kotambi Stadium in Vadodara, saw West Indies winning the toss and opting to bat first. The atmosphere was electric, with fans filling the stands, eagerly anticipating a competitive game following India’s dominant performances in the previous ODIs.
Renuka Singh bowls a beauty to dismiss Hayley Matthews
The action took place in the opening over of Windies innings which saw Renuka getting rid of opener Qiana Joseph on the very first ball. Renuka capitalized on the strong start and finished the over by sending Matthews back in the hut.
Renuka bowled a good length delivery which tailed in late, deceiving Matthews. The ball pitched just outside off and swung back sharply, going through the gap between bat and pad to clatter into the stumps. Matthews, who has been a key player for West Indies, was dismissed for a duck, leaving her team reeling at 1/2 after the first over.

Renuka’s fine spell of high-class bowling
This early dismissal set a daunting tone for West Indies. The loss of their captain in the very first over of the innings was a psychological blow, especially considering Matthews’ reputation for anchoring the innings. Renuka’s performance didn’t stop there; she continued her spell, eventually finishing with an impressive three wickets in the powerplay. After getting rid of Joseph and Matthews, she also dismissed the experienced campaigner Deandra Dottin as well.
