In the 11th clash of the Big Bash League (BBL) 2024-25, Melbourne Stars were up against Sydney Sixers at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG). The visiting side were desperate to overturn their fortunes in the tournament, after getting defeats in all matches up until now. Stars set up a target of 195 runs for Sixers to chase.

Marcus Stoinis’ reaction getting out to Todd Murphy

Stoinis arrived on the crease after Sam Harper was dismissed by Murphy on just 12 runs. A partnership was building up between Glenn Maxwell and Stoinis with the two batters trying to pick up some momentum after dismissals at crucial junctures. Just then, Maxwell gave away his wicket while attempting a slog-sweep. Stoinis was then in-charge of taking Stars to a respectable total. But his innings came to an end soon, as he missed an incoming middle and leg stump quicker ball from Murphy. The 35-year-old was visibly furious with himself as he walked back to the dressing room. Stars were at 150 runs for the loss of 5 wickets at the time of Stoinis’ dismissal.

Runs came in easily for Stars as Sixers invited them to bat first after winning the toss. Ben Duckett played an instrumental 68-run knock for Stars to put early pressure on Sixers’ bowling line-up. The Sixers bowlers struggled to stop the flow of runs with Duckett scoring 10 fours and 2 towering sixes. Akeal Hosein was the most costly bowler for Sixers. The Caribbean gave away 50 runs with an economy rate of 12.50. Murphy was the only Sixers bowler who proved out to be effective against Stars. The 24-year-old took 2 wickets off 26 runs in his 4-over spell.
