Virat Kohli is known for his pumped up attitude on the cricketing field. After the former Indian skipper was involved in an on-field clash with the young debutant Sam Konstas on the opening day of the Boxing Day Test that received criticisms from cricket fans and analysts alike, the 36-year-old almost got involved in a heated exchange once again, this time with Australian fans on Day 2 of the Melbourne Test.

Furious Virat Kohli returned for a heated exchange with the MCG crowd

The incident took place as Kohli was returning back to the pavilion after getting dismissed by Scott Boland. The members of the crowd at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) were constantly de-motivating the former Indian skipper. Things instigated as the crowd kept on throwing slangs at Kohli while he was walking back. Just then, Kohli heard something objectionable form the crowd and returned to give a reply back. However, the heated exchange couldn’t escalate further as a ground official stepped in to avoid the tussle. Disappointed with the encounter, Kohli headed back to the dressing room with the official.

The crowd at the MCG has been hell-bent against Kohli ever since his encounter with Konstas on Day 1 became a centre of attraction. Kohli received severe backlash from Australian media and former cricketers for his actions. ICC had taken cognizance of the matter and penalized the 36-year-old with 20 percent of the match fee and one demerit point. Kohli has been a target for the MCG crowd ever since. The former Indian skipper was discouraged even when he came to bat after Tea on the second day after KL Rahul’s dismissal.

A disappointing display from Kohli with the bat once again

Apart from a century in the first Test at Perth, Kohli has been struggling with form in the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy. The Indian legend appeared to gain some momentum as long as youngster Yashasvi Jaiswal was on the crease. The two Indian batters played some emphatic shots and looked set to build a solid partnership. However, an unfortunate miscommunication between the two led to Jaiswal’s dismissal. The young opening batter played a crucial knock of 82 runs off 118 balls. Kohli then looked visibly in distress and gave away his wicket while attempting a cover drive on an outside off-stump delivery from Boland. The former Indian skipper could only score 36 runs in the first innings. Ravindra Jadeja and Rishabh Pant are on the crease for India at the end of Day 2. India still trail behind Australia by 310 runs.
