Australian captain Alyssa Healy is playing today’s Women’s Ashes 2025 match against England. Healy, a wicketkeeper-batter of the Australian team, is missing from the playing XI, leaving fans speculating about the reason behind her absence.
Why Alyssa Healy is not playing the first T20I against England?
Healy was sidelined from the first T20I of the three-match leg against England due to a foot injury, which has also cast doubt on her availability for the remainder of the Ashes series. With a packed schedule of three T20Is and a four-day Test over the next two weeks, time is running out for her recovery.
She experienced discomfort in the same foot that was injured during the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup last October, when she ruptured her plantar fascia. This followed a series of setbacks, including a knee injury that ruled her out of the Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL) and the subsequent ODI series against India.
After returning as a specialist batter in late December during the ODI series against New Zealand and resuming wicketkeeping duties in the ODI rubber against England, this latest injury is another setback for Mitchell Starc’s wife.
In Healy’s absence, Tahlia McGrath is leading the Australian side.
