Rohit Sharma’s bold decision to step aside

Rohit’s decision to opt out of the fifth Test came amid mounting criticism over his poor form in the BGT against Australia, where he managed just 31 runs across three Tests. Many pundits had questioned his place in the squad, with calls for a change in leadership gaining momentum. Explaining his choice, Rohit clarified that he was neither dropped nor rested but voluntarily stood down to allow in-form players, such as Shubman Gill, to step up for the crucial match. “It was about the team, not me. I wasn’t performing, and I felt the team needed someone in better form,” Rohit remarked in an interview.

Meanwhile, in a tightly contested encounter, Australia registered a 6-wicket victory over India in the 5th Test at Sydney as they managed to chase down the target of 162 runs, finishing at 162/4 in their second innings. Usman Khawaja (41) and Travis Head (34) anchored the chase, while Scott Boland’s 6-wicket haul played a pivotal role in restricting India to 157 in their second innings.
