Team India opted to bowl first in the second T20I against England at MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. The home team under the leadership of Suryakumar Yadav made two changes to their playing XI as some key players didn’t find a place in the final XI for the second game. Notably, Nitish Kumar Reddy and Rinku Singh were not selected for the playing XI.

Reasons behind Nitish Kumar Reddy and Rinku Singh’s exclusion

A side strain injury during the practice session has Nitish Kumar Reddy ruled out of this series. Rinku Singh is out of the 2nd and 3rd T20I due to a low back spasm that he sustained while fielding in the opening match. Washington Sundar and Dhruv Jurel were picked to replace the duo.

“Nitish Kumar is ruled out, Rinku will recover in one or two games. We have Washington Sundar, local boy and Dhruv Jurel in place of Rinku,” said Suryakumar at the toss.

Notably, BCCI has also provided updates on injuries regarding Nitish and Rinku. Nitish has been ruled out of the entire series; he will undergo further treatment at the BCCI Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru. Meanwhile, Rinku is progressing well under the supervision of the BCCI medical team, but has also been ruled out of the 2nd and 3rd matches of the series.

Shivam Dube and Ramandeep Singh have joined the Indian squad, but they will be available only from the third match onward. Meanwhile, Abhishek Sharma, who was sidelined with an ankle injury, is now fit to play in Chennai.
