“I’ve been bowling for some time now”: Kuldeep Yadav
Speaking to The Telegraph, the Kanpur-born spinner expressed optimism about his recovery. “My recovery went quite well, and I’ve been bowling for some time now. I’m feeling good about my progress,” he said. Kuldeep last featured for India in October during the first Test against New Zealand. Unfortunately, the groin issue sidelined him for the remainder of that series and the entire Border-Gavaskar Trophy.
The injury required surgical intervention, which Kuldeep underwent in Germany. Now, with his recovery progressing smoothly, he is reportedly in contention for India’s squad for the ICC Men’s Champions Trophy, set to begin next month.

Kuldeep has been a key figure in India’s recent white-ball successes. He played a pivotal role in India’s journey to the final of the 2023 ODI World Cup and was instrumental in their victorious campaign at the 2024 T20 World Cup, ending a long ICC trophy drought. With the Champions Trophy taking place in the UAE, where conditions often favour spinners, Indian fans are hopeful that Kuldeep’s skills will once again prove decisive.
Kuldeep’s coach highlights the recovery efforts
Kuldeep’s personal coach, Kapil Pandey, has shed light on the spinner’s rehabilitation process.
“He [Kuldeep] has started bowling over the last 10 days or so. He’ll be coming to Kanpur after January 25 or 26, and we’ll work further on his line and length, spin, and other technical aspects,” Pandey told Hindustan Times.
Panday also mentioned that Kuldeep is expected to receive clearance from the National Cricket Academy (NCA) soon. “We’re quite hopeful about his Champions Trophy selection,” he added.
Preparatory series for the Champions Trophy 2025
The Indian management will be considering Kuldeep for a three-match ODI series against England, which serves as preparation for the Champions Trophy. The series will provide a platform for assessing his match fitness and form before the high-stakes tournament.
With Kuldeep’s return to competitive action and his impressive track record, he is poised to strengthen India’s spin department once again. Fans and selectors will be eagerly watching his performances in the lead-up to the Champions Trophy, hoping for yet another impactful display on the global stage.
