West Indies showcased an outstanding all-round performance to secure a resounding 106-run victory over Bangladesh in the second Women’s T20I at Warner Park, St Kitts. With that, the hosts also took a 2-0 lead in the three-match series.

Qiana Joseph stars in West Indies’ big total

After electing to bowl first, Bangladesh struggled to contain the aggressive West Indies batting lineup, allowing the hosts to post a massive 201/6 in their 20 overs. Qiana Joseph was the star of the show, smashing a brilliant 63 off just 36 deliveries, which included nine fours and two sixes.

Joseph was well supported by Deandra Dottin, who played a blistering knock of 49 off 20 balls, hitting three fours and five sixes. Hayley Matthews also provided a solid start with a quick 27 off 18 balls, setting the foundation for a dominant total. Late cameos from Shabika Gajnabi (24 off 12) and Jannillea Glasgow (14 off 14) ensured West Indies reached a formidable score.

Bangladesh bowlers found it tough to break through the West Indian batting lineup. Fahima Khatun was the only standout, picking up three wickets for 38 runs in her four-over spell. Rabeya Khan also contributed with two wickets, but the rest of the attack proved ineffective as the home side dictated terms with the bat.

Bangladesh falter in a disappointing run chase

Chasing a daunting target of 202, Bangladesh never found momentum, collapsing under the pressure of the disciplined West Indian bowling attack. The visitors struggled from the very beginning, losing wickets at regular intervals and failing to build any substantial partnerships.

Sharmin Akhter was the top scorer for Bangladesh with a patient 22 off 25 balls, while Shorna Akter managed 16 off 15. However, the rest of the batting lineup failed to contribute significantly, as wickets tumbled one after another. The middle and lower order crumbled under the relentless bowling attack, with Bangladesh finishing at 95/9 in their allotted 20 overs.

A dominant performance puts West Indies in control of the series

West Indies bowlers put in a clinical display to dismantle the Bangladesh batting order. Cherry Ann Fraser and Afy Fletcher picked up two wickets each, while Matthews made an impact with the ball as well, grabbing two wickets for just six runs in her two-over spell. Zaida James, Ashmini Munisar, and Glasgow kept the pressure on, ensuring there was no way back for the visitors.

With the emphatic 106-run victory, West Indies have asserted their dominance in the series. Joseph, who played a match-winning knock, was deservedly named the Player of the Match for her outstanding contribution with the bat.
