Online impersonation has fooled the very best of us sometimes. Cricketers are no exception to it. Be it Anil Kumble who had to issue a statement after fake quotes of him went viral on social media platforms or Virat Kohli who felt the need to check if tennis star Novak Djokovic’s Instagram account is real after he received a message from the tennis champion. Latest in the list of people caught in an impersonation fiasco is former Indian off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin, who interacted with an impersonator of Ritika Sajdeh– Rohit Sharma’s wife.
Ravichandran Ashwin engages in a chat with Ritika Sajdeh’s parody account
The incident occurred as Ashwin who is highly active on social media platform X after his retirement, received a comment on one of his posts which said, “Australia thought they can clean sweep us,” the account with a username @Nishitha018 commented. However, since the account had used the name and photo of Ritika, Ashwin thought it is indeed Rohit’s wife and gave an instant reply to the comment.
“Hi Ritika, how are you? Regards to the little one and family,” Ashwin replied on the impersonator’s post. The user continued being Ritika and enjoying the traction it had received online following a reply from Ashwin. “I’m good Ashwin anna,” it replied back. However, by that time, Ashwin realised that it was a fake account and deleted the whole conversation.

Ritika and Rohit welcomed a baby boy
In his reply to the impersonator, Ashwin implied to send his wishes to the youngest member of Rohit’s family. The couple welcomed a baby boy in November 2024, their second child after they were blessed with a girl, Samaira in 2018. Rohit opted out of the first match of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Perth and did not travel with the Indian squad to Australia in order to be with his wife. The 37-year-old joined the squad in Adelaide for the second Test match. Rohit confirmed the birth of his second child in a social media post captioned, “The FAMILY, the one where we are four.” A date was also mentioned by the Indian skipper 15.11.2024 to confirm the birth of their newborn.
