Former Indian cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar has recently shared his thoughts on potential successors for Indian cricket icons Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, particularly in the ODI format. Kohli and Rohit have established themselves as the stalwarts of Indian cricket in the white-ball format, with both players delivering consistent, match-winning performances over the years. Kohli’s mastery in chasing down totals, particularly in ODIs, and Rohit’s explosive batting at the top of the order have played a significant role in India’s triumphs on the world stage. Despite their retirement from T20I cricket, both remain integral to India’s ODI plans, with their leadership, experience, and tactical acumen still highly valued. Sanjay Manjrekar’s choice for the white-ball cricket
Speaking on Star Sports show ‘Deep Point’, Manjrekar has confidently stated that Shubman Gill and Yashasvi Jaiswal are poised to take over the mantle from Kohli and Rohit in India’s white-ball cricket future. Gill, who has already made an indelible mark on the international stage, has become one of the most promising young talents in world cricket.

Manjrekar pointed out that Gill’s record-breaking 200 in an ODI, along with his solid consistency, showcases his capacity to be a leading figure in the next decade. As India’s newly appointed vice-captain for the England ODI series and the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy, Gill’s maturity and skill set have already earned him the trust of the team’s management.
“Shubman Gill will continue to work in white ball. He already has a 200 and all his records,” Manjrekar said.
On the other hand, Jaiswal, despite not yet making his ODI debut, has created waves with his outstanding performances in Tests and T20Is. His fearless batting style and ability to perform under pressure have impressed everyone who has seen him in action.
Manjrekar believed that Jaiswal possesses the skill and temperament to make an impact in 50-over cricket as well. With the right opportunities, Jaiswal is ready to capture the world of white-ball cricket, continuing India’s tradition of producing top-tier batting talent.
“We haven’t seen Yashasvi yet (in ODIs). We’ve seen him in the Test. But for him, that world is there to capture. He has it. If he gets a chance, he’ll capture it,” Manjrekar concluded.
