The much-anticipated England tour of India 2025 is set to begin on January 22 and will run until February 12. The tour includes five T20I matches and three One-Day Internationals (ODIs). The first T20I will be held at the iconic Eden Gardens in Kolkata, marking the opening of the series.

This tour represents a crucial transition for both teams, as they shift from the traditional Test cricket format to the more fast-paced and dynamic world of T20 cricket. Indian cricket star Suryakumar Yadav will lead the hosts in the shorter format of the game and dynamic batter Jos Buttler captains the visitors. Both India and England have a rich history in T20 cricket, and this series promises to be a spectacle. Throughout their T20I encounters, both teams have experienced their share of lows, with some unforgettable collapses.

Here are the five lowest totals ever-scored in T20I matches between India and England:

5. India’s struggle in Ahmedabad (March 2021 – 124/7)

India’s struggle in Ahmedabad

In the first T20I of England’s tour of India in March 2021, India posted one of their lowest totals against England, managing only 124 runs for the loss of 7 wickets. Despite a valiant 67-run effort from Shreyas Iyer, India struggled to build partnerships, with England’s bowlers, particularly Jofra Archer, putting on an impressive display. Archer’s three-wicket haul helped restrict India to a modest total. England then chased down the target comfortably, winning the match by 8 wickets. Archer was named Player of the Match for his outstanding performance with the ball.

4. England’s demolition in Birmingham (July 2022 – 121 all out)

England’s demolition in Birmingham

In the second T20I of England’s tour of India in July 2022, England found themselves all out for a mere 121 runs. None of their batters could score half-century, and they were quickly dismantled by the Indian bowlers. Bhuvneshwar Kumar was the standout performer, taking three crucial wickets and being named Player of the Match. India had set a target of 170 runs after scoring 170/8 in their innings, and they won the match by a comfortable margin of 49 runs, leaving England in disarray.

3. India’s poor performance at Eden Gardens (October 2011 – 120/9)

India’s poor performance at Eden Gardens

India’s performance in the only T20I of their tour to England in October 2011 is remembered for their disastrous total of 120/9. The match was played at Eden Gardens, Kolkata, where India could not get going against England’s bowlers. Steven Finn was the pick of the bowlers for England, claiming three wickets and putting India under immense pressure. No Indian batter managed to score a half-century, and they were eventually bundled out for a paltry score. England chased down the target easily, winning the match by 6 wickets and securing a dominant win.

2. England’s collapse in the 2024 ICC Men’s T20I World Cup Semifinal (103 all out)

England’s collapse in the 2024 ICC Men’s T20I World Cup Semifinal

In the high-stakes semifinal of the ICC Men’s T20I World Cup 2024, England’s batting collapse became a defining moment of the tournament. They were bowled out for just 103 runs by a clinical Indian bowling attack. The spin duo of Kuldeep Yadav and Axar Patel were particularly lethal, each taking three wickets and dominating the English batters. Axar’s outstanding performance earned him the Player of the Match award. India, having posted 171/7 in their innings, won by a convincing 68-run margin, advancing to the final. India would eventually go on to win the tournament, defeating South Africa in the final.

1. England’s T20I record low against India (2010 ICC World T20 – 80 all out)

England’s T20I record low against India

England’s most dismal T20I performance against India came in the ICC Men’s T20I World Cup 2012, when they were bowled out for a record-low total of just 80 runs in a group stage match. This remains England’s lowest-ever T20I score, and it was against India. The English batters had no answer to the lethal spin attack of Harbhajan Singh, who took four wickets in his spell. Singh’s brilliant performance earned him the Player of the Match award. India, who had posted a total of 170 runs in their innings, won the match by a massive margin of 90 runs, leaving England with little to show in terms of a fight.
