Day one of the Ranji Trophy sixth round witnessed a buzz of excitement with the return of Indian cricket’s biggest stars to the domestic circuit. The BCCI had mandated their participation following India’s disappointing Test performances in late 2024. However, the return did not go as planned for some of the stalwarts, including Rohit Sharma, who struggled to make an impact in Mumbai’s clash against Jammu & Kashmir at the BKC Ground.
Rohit was dismissed for just 3 runs in the first innings by pacer Umar Nazir Mir, continuing the trend of low scores for star batters. The first day largely belonged to the bowlers across the country, as they utilized favorable conditions to dominate the opposing line-ups.
Rohit Sharma’s fight back in the second innings for Mumbai
Despite the poor start, Rohit made a spirited comeback in Mumbai’s second innings on Day 2. Though he was dropped early in his knock by Nazir, the Indian captain capitalized on the reprieve. In the same over, Rohit smashed 14 runs, including a towering pull shot for six. He continued his aggressive approach, striking another maximum off Auqib Nabi‘s over long-off, tallying three sixes and two fours in his 28-run knock.

Abid Mushtaq’s spectacular catch steals the show
Rohit’s promising innings was cut short by a moment of brilliance from Abid Mushtaq. In the 14th over, bowled by Yudhvir Singh, Rohit attempted to drive a good-length delivery straight but mistimed the shot. The ball sailed towards the short mid-wicket region, where Mushtaq dived and plucked a one-handed stunner to dismiss the Indian captain. The breathtaking catch ended Rohit’s stay at the crease, drawing applause from fans and players alike.
