The stunning incident occurred in the 19th over of Eastern Cape’s innings at the Wanderers. Facing Hardus Viljoen, Swanepoel attempted to hit a short ball pitched outside off towards deep point. As the ball left his bat, it seemed destined to clear the boundary, promising a much-needed six for Eastern Cape. However, Ferreira had other plans.

Racing across from the boundary line, Ferreira timed his run to perfection and extended his right hand in a last-ditch effort. What followed was nothing short of extraordinary. With absolute composure, he plucked the ball out of thin air in one motion, showcasing impeccable athleticism and sharp reflexes. The crowd at the Wanderers erupted in disbelief and admiration as Ferreira celebrated wildly, running halfway around the ground. Even Viljoen, the bowler, was left stunned by the gravity-defying effort. This catch not only dismissed Swanepoel for a golden duck but also underscored Ferreira’s brilliance in the field, a testament to the importance of fielding in T20 cricket.

Joburg Super Kings dominate Sunrisers Eastern Cape in one-sided encounter

In a commanding display of cricket, the Super Kings crushed Eastern Cape by nine wickets. Electing to bat first, the Eastern Cape struggled to find momentum and were bowled out for a mere 118 in 19 overs, courtesy of a sensational bowling performance by Lutho Sipamla and Viljoen.

Sipamla dismantled the Eastern Cape’s top order, claiming 3/13 in his three overs. His wickets included Zak Crawley, Tom Abell and Jordan Hermann, leaving the Eastern Cape reeling at 12/3 within three overs. Viljoen complemented Sipamla’s efforts, taking 4/24, including the crucial scalp of captain Aiden Markram for a duck. David Bedingham (48 off 40) and Tristan Stubbs (37 off 38) provided some resistance, but the rest of the batting lineup collapsed under relentless pressure.

Chasing a modest target of 119, the Super Kings cruised to victory with 36 balls to spare. Devon Conway anchored the innings with a classy unbeaten 76 off 56 balls, smashing 11 fours and 3 sixes. Faf du Plessis added a quick 15, while Wihan Lubbe chipped in with an aggressive 25 off 17 to seal the win in just 14 overs. The Eastern Cape bowlers lacked penetration, with Swanepoel (1/24) picking up the solitary wicket of du Plessis. Marco Jansen and Richard Gleeson kept their economy in check, but it was far from enough to defend a below-par total.
