Pakistan Test captain Shan Masood firmly addressed a “disrespectful” question during a press conference on Monday after his team’s 120-run defeat to the West Indies in the second Test. The match, held at the Multan Cricket Stadium, saw Pakistan’s hopes crumble in the morning session of Day 3, sparking heated discussions in the media.

During the post-match briefing, a reporter questioned whether Masood would voluntarily step down or if the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) would need to intervene.

“There is a lot of disrespect in your question”: Shan Masood

Masood dismissed the inquiry, stating, “You have your opinion, and I respect that, but there is a lot of disrespect in your question.” He emphasized that no player should be disrespected for their efforts and urged the media to maintain decorum.

“We all play for Pakistan and give our best to achieve results. Criticism is part of the game, but disrespecting players is unacceptable,” Masood asserted. He reiterated that team decisions lie with the PCB, which the players fully respect.

Reflecting on the loss, Masood acknowledged the team’s shortcomings. He admitted that failing to capitalize after reducing the West Indies to 38 for 7 on the first day was a crucial turning point. The lower-order resistance, led by Gudakesh Motie, gave the visitors a defendable lead.

“We have been facing this problem of not being able to quickly get the lower order out for some time now and we have to find a way to resolve this because in Tests you have to grab the opportunities that come your way as a team,” Masood added.

Pakistan’s batting also faltered under pressure, struggling against spinners like Jomel Warrican, who claimed five wickets in the final innings and helped West Indies in levelling the series.

Masood emphasized the need to address recurring issues, such as dismissing tailenders efficiently, to improve the team’s performance in Tests. Despite the setback, he urged for patience, citing the team’s recent home victories and the ongoing effort to build consistency.
