Champions Trophy 2025: Semifinalists of Group A confirmed
Champions Trophy 2025 - Semifinalists of Group A confirmed

The ICC Champions Trophy 2025 has reached a pivotal stage with the semifinalists from Group A now confirmed. India and New Zealand have secured their spots in the final four, leaving hosts Pakistan and Bangladesh out of contention for the knockout stages.

India and New Zealand’s dominance

India, led by Rohit Sharma, have had a stellar start to the tournament, winning both their matches against Bangladesh and Pakistan. Their victories have been marked by strong team performances, with notable contributions from Shubman Gill and Virat Kohl. India’s qualification was sealed after New Zealand defeated Bangladesh, ensuring that the Men in Blue would advance regardless of their final group stage match.

New Zealand, meanwhile, have been the most impressive team in Group A, winning both their matches convincingly. Their campaign began with a 60-run victory over Pakistan, followed by a five-wicket win over Bangladesh. Rachin Ravindra’s century in the latter match was instrumental in securing their semifinal berth. New Zealand’s strong bowling lineup, led by Michael Bracewell, has been a key factor in their success.

Pakistan’s disappointing campaign

For Pakistan, the tournament has been a major disappointment. As the defending champions and hosts, they were expected to perform well, but back-to-back defeats against New Zealand and India have ended their campaign prematurely. Their final match against Bangladesh will be a battle of pride, as they seek to salvage some points from the tournament.

Bangladesh’s struggles

Bangladesh, despite showing glimpses of brilliance, have struggled to find consistency. Their batting lineup has been unable to post competitive totals, leading to two consecutive losses. Their match against Pakistan will be crucial for both teams, as they aim to end their group stage on a positive note.

Upcoming matches and semifinals scenario

India and New Zealand will face each other in their final group stage match on March 2 in Dubai. The winner of this match will top Group A, while the loser will finish second. If India wins, they will play the runner-up of Group B, which currently features Australia and South Africa as strong contenders. If New Zealand emerges victorious, India will face the winner of Group B.

In Group B, Australia and South Africa are vying for a semifinal spot, with both teams having won one match each. Their upcoming match against each other will be crucial, as a win would virtually guarantee a place in the semifinals for either side.

The semifinals are scheduled to take place on March 4 and 5. India’s semifinal match is set for March 4 at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium, regardless of their final group stage position.
