It has been a hard season for Babar Azam with the bat. Pakistan‘s star batter failed to leave a mark during Pakistan’s tour to South Africa, followed by a dismal performance from Babar against the West Indies. His batting woes continue during the ODI tri-series as he struggles to find momentum in his batting. Amidst dreadful performances from Babar, former South African batter Herschelle Gibbs has come out and taken a jibe at Babar’s communication skills.
Herschelle Gibbs mocks Babar’s struggles with English
The incident occurred when a fan requested Gibbs to offer advice to Babar Azam on overcoming his lean patch, the former South African cricketer highlighted the challenges of communication due to the language barrier. Gibbs noted that conveying technical insights to Babar is difficult, as his English proficiency is limited.
“Language is an issue with Babar, as you know his English isn’t great so it’s difficult to get points across to him,” Gibbs wrote on X.
Reflecting on his time coaching Babar at Karachi Kings in the Pakistan Super League (PSL), Gibbs observed that the star batter has maintained the same approach and temperament in his gameplay without significant adjustments.
“Was the first time I was working with him so for me it was more an observation than anything else but what I’ve seen since then is he hasn’t changed his approach and still plays with the same tempo and same shots,” the former South African opined.

Babar’s dreadful form in the ODI tri-series
Babar has been enduring a rough patch with the bat across formats, as the star batter struggles to find his usual rhythm. In the ongoing ODI tri-series, his performances have been below par, failing to make a significant impact. Against New Zealand, he managed just 10 runs off 23 deliveries, followed by a modest 23 off 19 balls against South Africa. These underwhelming scores highlight his recent inconsistency and inability to convert starts into substantial innings. As Pakistan’s premier batter, his lean form has raised concerns ahead of crucial fixtures. Regaining his touch will be key for both his confidence and Pakistan’s success in the tournament and can prove Pakistan’s chances in the upcoming Champions Trophy 2025.
