As the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season kicked off spectacularly at Eden Gardens, with Virat Kohli’s unbeaten 59 guiding Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) to a commanding seven-wicket victory over defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), Australian wicketkeeper-batter Alyssa Healy made a bold prediction regarding the finalists and eventual winner of the tournament.
Alyssa Healy’s prediction for the IPL 2025
Speaking on the Willow Talk Podcast, Healy expressed her strong belief that Mumbai Indians (MI) and Delhi Capitals (DC) would make it to the final, with MI ultimately clinching their sixth IPL title. Her confidence in Mumbai Indians stems from their history of success, star-studded squad, and a potential “double triumph” across both the men’s and women’s tournaments.
During the podcast, Healy was unwavering in her support for Mumbai. Healy then proceeded to call the final, predicting an MI vs DC clash for the title,
“Mumbai Indians, they’ll be good, they’ll be good. They’ll win it, they should. MI vs. DC final, called it!,” Healy said.
This prediction comes amid heightened expectations surrounding both franchises. Mumbai Indians, led by Hardik Pandya, boast one of the most balanced squads, featuring Jasprit Bumrah, Suryakumar Yadav, Tilak Varma and overseas stars like Trent Boult. Meanwhile, Delhi Capitals, under Axar Patel’s leadership, have a dynamic squad that have players in the form of Tristan Stubbs, Kuldeep Yadav and Healy’s husband Mitchell Starc himself.

Eyeing a historic double win
One of the most intriguing aspects of Healy’s prediction was her reference to the possibility of Mumbai achieving a historic double – winning both the IPL and Women’s Premier League (WPL) in the same year. She pointed out how the Mumbai women’s team clinched the WPL title this year, and suggested that a similar feat in the men’s tournament would be an extraordinary accomplishment.
“Well, the Mumbai Indians girls won, and it’d be great for someone to do the double for the first time. Obviously, RCB won last year, but the boys couldn’t get over the line. So, Mumbai to do the double!,” Healy concluded.
This statement highlights Mumbai Indians’ legacy as the most successful IPL franchise, with their five titles making them the most dominant team in the tournament’s history. Their consistent ability to build world-class squads, retain key players, and groom young talents has made them perennial title contenders.
