Australia Women continued their dominance over New Zealand Women with a resounding 82-run victory in the second T20I at Bay Oval, sealing the three-match series 2-0. A stellar batting display led by Beth Mooney and a clinical bowling effort, highlighted by Annabel Sutherland’s four-wicket haul and Alana King’s three-fer, ensured the visitors remained unbeaten in the series.
Australia posts a mammoth total
After winning the toss and opting to bat, Australia made full use of the batting-friendly conditions, amassing a commanding total of 204/3 in 20 overs.
Beth Mooney was the standout performer, crafting a fluent 70 off 42 balls, laced with 11 boundaries. She provided a solid platform alongside Georgia Voll (36 off 20), as the pair put on a quick 65-run opening stand.
Following Mooney’s departure, Phoebe Litchfield (32 off 29) and Ellyse Perry (29 off 15) continued the onslaught with aggressive stroke play. Annabel Sutherland’s unbeaten 23 off 15, including a six, helped Australia cross the 200-run mark.
New Zealand’s bowlers struggled against the relentless attack, with Amelia Kerr (1/27), Jess Kerr (1/39), and Sophie Devine (1/38) managing to take wickets but failing to stem the run flow.
New Zealand fails to deliver under pressure
Chasing a daunting 205, New Zealand never got going and were bowled out for 122 in 16.1 overs.
They suffered an early blow as captain Sophie Devine fell for a first-ball duck. Though Amelia Kerr (40 off 36) and Maddy Green (22 off 18) attempted to stabilize the innings, wickets kept tumbling at regular intervals. Jess Kerr (14 off 7) added a few quick runs lower down the order, but the damage had already been done.
Australia’s bowling attack was ruthless, with Annabel Sutherland leading the charge with figures of 4/8 in just 2.1 overs. Alana King (3/27) and Darcie Brown (2/23) were equally effective in dismantling the White Ferns’ batting lineup.
