Harmanpreet Kaur and Nat Sciver-Brunt anchor Mumbai’s innings
Opting to bowl first, Delhi Capitals got off to a strong start with Marizanne Kapp dismissing two early batters. However, a crucial 89-run partnership between Harmanpreet (66 off 44) and Nat Sciver-Brunt steadied the innings. Mumbai posted a competitive total of 149/7, setting up an exciting contest.
Delhi Capitals’ struggle in the chase
Delhi Capitals faltered in their chase, with both openers Lanning (13) and Shafali Verma (4) departing early. Despite a fighting knock of 30 from Jemimah Rodrigues, the team failed to form substantial partnerships. Meg Lanning reflects on yet another final defeat
Delhi captain Lanning acknowledged that her side had a strong season but expressed disappointment over falling short in the final once again. She credited Mumbai Indians for their consistent performances throughout the tournament and congratulated them on their well-deserved victory.
“We have had another good season but unfortunately we couldn’t quite get over the line again tonight. Full credit to Mumbai—congratulations, you have been excellent throughout the whole season and thoroughly deserve your win,” said Lanning at the post-match chat.
Lanning admitted that Delhi Capitals struggled to deliver their best performances in the final, which was disappointing despite their thorough preparation. She expressed frustration over missing out on the title despite being in a strong position to win but acknowledged that such outcomes are part of the game, where some days go in your favor and others do not.
“We haven’t been able to put our best performances on the board in the final, which is disappointing, but that’s cricket. We were well-prepared, but it just hasn’t happened for us. We are bitterly disappointed as we put ourselves in a good position to win, but that’s the game—you win some, you lose some, and unfortunately, we have been on the wrong side,” added Lanning.
