Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) have taken a major step before the start of their IPL 2025 campaign. They have signed Shardul Thakur as a replacement player for injured Mohsin Khan. The move was made by LSG just a day before they play their first match against Delhi Capitals in Visakhapatnam.
Mohsin Khan’s injury setback
Mohsin’s pullout from the IPL 2025 season is a major blow to LSG. The left-arm pacer hurt his anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in December 2024 while playing a Vijay Hazare Trophy match. Even though he attended the LSG pre-season camp, he couldn’t fully participate as he picked up a calf strain during training. Mohsin’s rehabilitation plan is in progress with LSG’s medical team, but he will be out for the entire season.
Shardul Thakur’s signing details
Shardul Thakur, the experienced all-rounder from Mumbai, has been signed at his base price of INR 2 crore from the Registered Available Player Pool (RAPP). Thakur went unsold during the IPL auction in late 2024 but showcased impressive performances in domestic cricket, particularly during the Ranji Trophy, where he made significant contributions with both bat and ball.

Thakur’s experience in IPL is impressive, having played 95 games with five franchises, namely Chennai Super Kings (CSK), Delhi Capitals (DC) and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). He has scalped 94 wickets and is famous for his pressure-proof performances, especially with his lower-order batting skills.
Thakur’s inclusion gives LSG the depth that they so badly need in their bowling department. With several of their main players suffering from injury, his experience will be crucial to help them see through the early part of the tournament. His recent performances in domestic cricket indicate that he will be a major factor in bringing stability to the team’s form at this tough time.
Rishabh Pant, leading LSG this season, will heavily bank on Thakur’s all-round abilities as they look to kick start strong against Delhi Capitals on March 24. The match promises to be vital for earning points but also in boosting the team morale amidst injury issues.
