Mohammed Siraj produced a dream delivery to dismiss Mumbai Indians‘ former captain Rohit Sharma in the very first over, setting the tone for the Gujarat Titans in Ahmedabad in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. After conceding two boundaries early in the over, Siraj made a brilliant comeback with an unplayable ball that left Rohit completely bamboozled. The delivery had everything – pace, movement, and precision – leaving the experienced batter stunned at the crease.
Mohammed Siraj’s lethal swing dismantles Rohit Sharma early
Siraj bowled a back-of-a-length delivery that pitched just outside off and jagged back in viciously. Rohit, expecting a more straightforward line, failed to cover the movement and was completely cut in half. The ball sneaked through the narrowest of gaps between bat and pad, brushing past his inside edge before crashing into the middle and off the bail. Rohit had no answer to the sheer brilliance of Siraj’s delivery, which left him frozen in disbelief. GT erupted in celebration, knowing they had removed MI’s most experienced batter within the first over. Siraj, pumped up from the breakthrough, sprinted across the field in jubilation, while Rohit could only shake his head as he walked back to the pavilion. This early blow put MI on the back foot, giving GT the perfect start with the ball.

Gujarat Titans take control after explosive start and early strikes against Mumbai Indians
Gujarat set a formidable total of 196/8 in their 20 overs, courtesy of a fluent 63 from Sai Sudharsan and a brisk 39 from Jos Buttler. Captain Shubman Gill also contributed with 38, ensuring GT maintained a healthy scoring rate throughout. Despite some late stutters, their aggressive batting display put Mumbai under pressure from the outset. In response, Mumbai had a disastrous start as Siraj struck twice inside the powerplay, dismissing Rohit and Ryan Rickelton early. While Tilak Varma and Suryakumar Yadav attempted to rebuild, MI still faced an uphill task, requiring 149 runs from 84 balls with a climbing required run rate. With Gujarat’s bowling attack finding rhythm, MI will need a strong counterattack to stay in the hunt.
