The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) recently released with its central contract list of women cricketers, fuelling discussions about the men’s team contracts. While the women’s list consists of 16 players, the earlier men’s contract list consisted of 30 players.
BCCI set to reveal the central contracts for Rohit Sharma & Co.
As reported by NDTV, the list of central contracts is being finalised by the national selection panel with inputs from Team India’s head coach Gautam Gambhir and the BCCI secretary Devjeet Saikia. The current A+ list features big guns like Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Ravindra Jadeja and Jasprit Bumrah.
But, the non-uniformity among BCCI members on the A+ category brings into focus the intricacies of player assessment and contract negotiation.
Comprehending the A+ category
The A+ category selection usually involves top players who feature in all three versions of international cricket. However, since Rohit, Kohli and Jadeja have retired from T20 internationals, questions have been raised regarding their place in this group of crème de la crème.

Key changes in the player contracts
In a surprising turn of events, Ravichandran Ashwin will be dropped from the BCCI contract list because he has retired from international cricket. On the other hand, Axar Patel, who has just been made vice-captain of India’s T20I team, could be upgraded from B category to A category. His repeated performance has made him a gem of the team.
Also, Shreyas Iyer’s comeback to the central contract list is confirmed after featuring in 11 ODI games this season. His performance has been of immense value, and being included is a testament to his value to the team in the future.
