In the lead-up to the ICC Men’s Champions Trophy 2025 final between India and New Zealand, intense speculation has surrounded the future of Indian captain Rohit Sharma, with various cricket experts mentioning he might announce his retirement after the match.

Will Rohit Sharma retire after the Champions Trophy 2025 final?

Speaking at a pre-match press conference, India vice-captain Shubman Gill emphasized that the team’s focus is solely on winning the Champions Trophy. “All our discussions have been about winning the final and the title. The team and I have not been told anything about this decision,” Gill stated. He also believes that Rohit is not thinking about retirement at the moment and will likely make a decision after the final.

Gill also praised the Indian batting lineup, describing it as the best he has been part of, with Rohit being one of the best openers in the world and Virat Kohli’s skills needing no special mention. Despite speculation about both players’ futures in the ODI format, Gill confirmed that retirement discussions have not taken place in the dressing room.

The Men in Blue are determined to secure their third Champions Trophy title after missing out on the ODI World Cup in 2023. The team’s confidence stems from their unbeaten run in the tournament, with both Rohit and Virat playing crucial roles. As the cricket world awaits the outcome of the final, Gill’s comments have put to rest, for now, the speculation surrounding Rohit’s potential retirement, focusing attention back on the match at hand.
