Delhi Capitals (DC) put on a commanding performance to defeat Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) by seven wickets in Match 10 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 at the Dr. Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium. Aniket Verma’s blistering knock gave SRH a fighting total, but it wasn’t enough to stop DC’s dominant batting display, led by Faf du Plessis and Jake Fraser-McGurk.
Mitchell Starc wreaks havoc as SRH crumble
After winning the toss and opting to bat first, Sunrisers Hyderabad suffered an early collapse as Mitchell Starc and Kuldeep Yadav ran riot. SRH lost three wickets within the powerplay, with Abhishek Sharma (1), Ishan Kishan (2), and Nitish Kumar Reddy (0) departing cheaply. Travis Head showed some resistance with a quick 22 off 12 balls, but his dismissal further dented SRH’s top order.
Aniket turned the innings around with a stunning 74 off 41 balls, smashing five fours and six towering sixes. He was well-supported by Heinrich Klaasen, who chipped in with 32 off 19. Despite their efforts, SRH were bowled out for 163 in 18.4 overs, as Starc (5/35) and Kuldeep (3/22) dismantled the batting lineup.
Faf du Plessis leads the charge in DC’s chase
Chasing 164, Delhi Capitals started strongly with Fraser-McGurk and Du Plessis putting up a 81-run opening stand. Fraser-McGurk anchored the innings with a steady 38 off 32 balls, while Du Plessis played a crucial knock, hammering 50 off just 27 deliveries. Their partnership set the foundation for a comfortable chase.
Abishek Porel added further momentum with a blistering unbeaten 34 off 18, including two sixes. KL Rahul’s cameo (15 off 5) and Tristan Stubbs’ composed 21 not out ensured that DC reached the target in just 16 overs, sealing a dominant victory.
Among SRH’s bowlers, Zeeshan Ansari was the only bright spot, claiming all three wickets for 42 runs in his four overs. However, the rest of the attack struggled against DC’s aggressive batting lineup, with Mohammad Shami, Pat Cummins, and Harshal Patel failing to make an impact.

Murali Karthik – you know you've dismissed Travis Head 6 times?
Mitchell Starc – Probably that's why he doesn't take the strike against me. (Smiles). pic.twitter.com/y3oufSyi0c

In awe watching @faf1307. One of my favourite cricketers. Hitting cleanly, converting possible singles into twos, catching everything. Big inspiration for young players watching this game.

Since 2020 IPL, Faf du Plessis has
– Scored the most runs in IPL
– Hit the most 50+ scores
– Smashed the 3rd most sixes
– Struck the 2nd most foursAll this after turning 35, his batting just keeps getting better with age. pic.twitter.com/IIl49cWkit

Faf Du Plessis is the most underrated IPL batter. That's it. That's the tweet.

Faf Du Plessis will turn 41 in a few months but still looks fitter than most of the young players. Open the inning, play modern day T20 cricket and what to say about his fielding. pic.twitter.com/70JFD14pbu
