The National T20 Cup semifinal between Abbottabad and Peshawar was filled with high-intensity cricket, but it was Iftikhar Ahmed’s exuberant celebration and Salman Butt’s witty commentary that stole the limelight. Peshawar’s captain, Iftikhar, played a crucial role with the ball, picking up two key wickets, including that of Abbottabad skipper Kamran Ghulam. However, his reaction to Ghulam’s dismissal turned into the biggest talking point of the match.

Iftikhar Ahmed’s roaring celebration sparks Salman Butt’s hilarious comment

Iftikhar, coming over the wicket, delivered a full-length ball that enticed Ghulam into attempting a big shot. The batter, hoping to clear the ropes, mistimed it and sent a straightforward catch to Maaz Sadaqat at long-on. As the fielder completed the catch, Iftikhar erupted in wild celebration, punching the air and letting out a roar that suggested he had just dismissed a cricketing legend.

Seizing the moment, Butt, who was on commentary, couldn’t resist taking a hilarious dig at Iftikhar’s intense reaction. With perfect comedic timing, Butt quipped, “Wow! Has he picked up Viv Richards?” – a sarcastic nod to the exaggerated celebration. The remark instantly went viral, with social media buzzing with memes and reactions, praising Butt’s sharp humor.

Peshawar’s commanding win and Sahibzada Farhan’s blazing knock

Beyond the lighthearted moment, Peshawar dominated the match with a stunning batting display. Sahibzada Farhan stole the show with a breathtaking 148 off just 63 balls, smashing 15 fours and 8 sixes, propelling his team to a mammoth total of 243. Abbottabad’s chase never gained momentum despite a valiant effort from Shahzaib Khan, who scored a fighting 54 off 28 balls. The rest of the batting lineup collapsed under pressure, managing only 187/8 in their 20 overs.

Iftikhar Ahmed not only contributed with the ball, taking 2/25, but also ensured the match would be remembered for his on-field theatrics. While Peshawar’s win was comprehensive, it was Salman Butt’s cheeky remark about Iftikhar’s celebration that became the true highlight of the semifinal.
