In what turned out to be a thoroughly one-sided affair at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) registered a comprehensive 8-wicket victory over Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in Match 25 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. Sunil Narine delivered a match-winning all-round performance, dismantling CSK with the ball before launching a brutal counterattack with the bat to seal the chase in just 10.1 overs.

Put in to bat first after losing the toss, Chennai Super Kings never really found momentum with the bat. Despite a brief middle-order resistance from Shivam Dube (31 off 29) and Vijay Shankar (29 off 21), CSK’s innings failed to take off. The top order crumbled under pressure, with Rachin Ravindra and Devon Conway falling cheaply. Even experienced campaigners like MS Dhoni (1 off 4) and Ravindra Jadeja (0 off 2) couldn’t make an impact.

KKR’s bowlers, led by Narine, were clinical from start to finish. Narine spun a web around the CSK batters, finishing with figures of 3/13 in his four overs. He was well supported by Harshit Rana (2/16) and Varun Chakaravarthy (2/22), as CSK stumbled their way to 103/9 in their allotted 20 overs.

Chasing a modest target of 104, KKR came out with all guns blazing. Narine, promoted to the top, played a sensational knock, hammering 44 off just 18 balls, which included two fours and five sixes. He partnered with Quinton de Kock (23 off 16) to give KKR a fiery start in the powerplay.

Even after Narine’s dismissal, Ajinkya Rahane (20 off 17) and Rinku Singh (15* off 12) ensured there were no hiccups, as KKR chased down the target in just 10.1 overs. The CSK bowlers had no answers to the attacking display, with Khaleel Ahmed proving especially expensive, conceding 40 runs in his three overs.

With this emphatic win, the Knight Riders not only secured two crucial points but also gave a significant boost to their net run rate. For the Super Kings, it was a night to forget as both their batting and bowling units failed to fire. The home crowd, though passionate as ever, could only watch in silence as Narine stole the show.
