The 35th match of IPL 2025 at Ahmedabad delivered a high-octane spectacle as Gujarat Titans (GT) edged past Delhi Capitals (DC) by seven wickets, riding on Jos Buttler’s heroic unbeaten 97. The Narendra Modi Stadium was abuzz as GT skipper Shubman Gill won the toss and opted to field first, setting the stage for a run-fest between two in-form teams.

Delhi Capitals set the tone with a huge total

Delhi Capitals, asked to bat on a flat Ahmedabad wicket, came out swinging. Abishek Porel set the tempo with a rapid 18 off 9 balls, smashing Mohammed Siraj for 16 runs in the opening over before falling to Arshad Khan. KL Rahul (28 off 14) and Karun Nair (31 off 18) kept the momentum going, peppering the boundaries during a brisk 35-run partnership. However, Prasidh Krishna’s incisive spell (4/41) pulled things back for GT, removing both Rahul and Nair in quick succession.

Despite a strong platform at 93/3 in nine overs, DC couldn’t fully capitalize. Skipper Axar Patel (39 off 32) and Tristan Stubbs (31 off 21) steadied the ship with a 53-run stand, but both perished just as acceleration beckoned. Ashutosh Sharma’s late cameo (37 off 19) injected urgency, but Gujarat’s bowlers held their nerve in the death overs. Only 15 runs came from the final two overs, as DC finished on 203/8—an imposing total, yet perhaps below par given their early dominance.

Jos Buttler’s masterclass leads GT to a thrilling win over DC

Gujarat’s chase began with early drama as Gill was run out for just 7. Sai Sudharsan (36 off 21) provided brisk support, but it was Buttler who seized the spotlight. Walking in at 18/1, Buttler absorbed the pressure and then unleashed a breathtaking counterattack. He brought up his fifty off just 32 balls, mixing audacious sixes with classical drives, and found a reliable partner in Sherfane Rutherford (43 off 34).

The pair’s 119-run partnership shifted the momentum decisively in GT’s favour. Buttler’s calculated assault against Kuldeep Yadav and Vipraj Nigam—marked by consecutive sixes and deft placement—kept the required rate in check even as wickets fell at the other end. When Rutherford departed at 193/3 in the 19th over, GT needed just 11 runs from 8 balls. Buttler, unfazed by mounting tension and even battling injury late in the innings, stood with Rahul Tewatia sealing the win with four balls to spare.
