The five-wicket win, powered by Kamindu Mendis’ all-round brilliance and Nitish Kumar Reddy’s composure, ended SRH’s Chepauk jinx and kept their playoff hopes alive in a must-win encounter.

Put in to bat, CSK’s innings never quite found momentum on a tricky surface. The hosts lost Shaik Rasheed off the very first ball, setting the tone for a stop-start effort. Ayush Mhatre (30 off 19) provided early impetus, but wickets tumbled at regular intervals. Dewald Brevis, on IPL debut for CSK, emerged as the lone bright spot with a blistering 42 from 25 balls, peppering the leg-side boundary with four sixes.

However, SRH’s bowlers, led by Harshal Patel’s incisive spell (4/28) which adjudged him as Player of the Match, kept CSK in check. Pat Cummins (2/21) and Jaydev Unadkat (2/21) chipped in with crucial wickets, while Mendis made an impact with the ball, dismissing the dangerous Ravindra Jadeja. CSK’s lower order crumbled under pressure, bowled out for 154 in 19.5 overs—a total that looked below par but defendable at Chepauk.

Enter Mendis and Reddy. Mendis, having already contributed with the ball, produced a fielding highlight by taking a gravity-defying catch at long-off to dismiss Brevis—hailed by commentators as the “catch of the IPL”. With the bat, Mendis showcased calm under pressure, rotating strike and finding boundaries at crucial junctures. His unbeaten 32 off 22 balls, including a vital sweep for four in the 16th over, kept the required rate in check.

Reddy, meanwhile, played the perfect foil. His 19* off 13 balls included two crisp boundaries and smart running between the wickets. Together, the pair added an unbroken 49-run stand, steering SRH home with eight balls to spare. Their partnership not only sealed a five-wicket win but also marked SRH’s first-ever triumph over CSK at Chepauk—a venue where the hosts have historically dominated.
