Indian cricket star Shubman Gill, currently captaining Gujarat Titans (GT) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025, has addressed long-standing rumours about his love life. Speaking in an interview with Hollywood Reporter India, Gill firmly denied all dating speculations, clarifying that he has been single for over three years.
Shubman Gill opens up on his relationship rumours with various personalities
For years, Gill’s name has been linked with various personalities, notably with Sara Tendulkar, the daughter of cricket icon Sachin Tendulkar, and Bollywood actress Avneet Kaur. However, the 24-year-old has now set the record straight, calling the rumours “ridiculous” and emphasizing that he is too focused on his career to have time for a relationship.
“I mean, I’ve been single for over three years, and so many speculations and rumours link me with different people. And sometimes, it’s so ridiculous that I would have never even seen or met that person ever in my life. And I would be hearing rumours that I’m with this person and that person, whereas I’d be like,” Shubman said.
Gill laughed at how bizarre some of these stories are, pointing out that the public often creates narratives without any basis in reality. Gill went on to explain why it would be almost impossible for him to maintain a relationship given his hectic professional schedule
“Like, I know I’m so focused on what I need to do in my professional career. There is no space in my life to be with someone. Like 300 days a year, we are on the road travelling somewhere. So there is hardly any time to be able to be with someone or invest, you know, the time to be with someone in a relationship,” the Gujarat Titans captain added.

Gill speaks on handling crowd chants in the stadium
Gill also spoke about how he deals with the constant crowd chants that often tease him by calling out names associated with past rumours while he is batting or fielding. Surprisingly, he revealed that when he is batting, he doesn’t even register the noise from the stands. Describing his deep focus while on the field, Gill explained:
“I’ve told this many times, but I don’t know, it’s like an automatic switch. I don’t think any batter can hear those chants. It’s hard for me to explain. But when you’re in the zone, you can’t hear people chanting or anything. You’re so focused on the job that is there for you to finish,” the Indian opener stated.
Gil elaborated on the mindset needed during matches and however admitted that the situation changes a bit when he is fielding, particularly near the boundary ropes:
“You’re so focused on, okay, this bowler is bowling at me. This is how much we need to score. These are the things that I need to do. You’re so focused on, okay, which gaps do I need to hit? Or if he bowls there, where do I need to hit this next shot or this next phase? How do I need to play? You’re so focused on these things. When you’re fielding, especially when you’re closer to them [the spectators], that’s when you can hear them. Because when you’re batting, you’re so in the moment, you don’t hear much. But fielding on the boundary, you have a lot more time to hear everything,” Gill concluded.
