Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) delivered a clinical performance to outclass Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) by 80 runs in Match 15 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 at Eden Gardens. A stellar batting display led by Venkatesh Iyer and Angkrish Raghuvanshi, followed by a ruthless bowling attack, ensured a comfortable win for the home side.
KKR’s batting brilliance sets the tone
After being put in to bat first by SRH, KKR’s innings had a shaky start with both openers, Quinton de Kock (1) and Sunil Narine (7), failing to make an impact. However, Ajinkya Rahane steadied the ship with a crucial 38 off 27 balls, including four sixes. Youngster Angkrish played a vital knock, scoring a fluent 50 off 32 balls, while Venkatesh tole the show with an explosive 60 off just 29 deliveries. His innings, laced with seven fours and three sixes, gave KKR the much-needed momentum.
Rinku Singh provided the finishing touches with a brisk 32 off 17 balls, helping KKR reach an imposing total of 200/6 in their 20 overs. SRH’s bowling attack struggled to contain the runs, with Mohammad Shami (1/29) and Zeeshan Ansari (1/25) being the most economical. Captain Pat Cummins picked up a wicket but was expensive, conceding 44 runs in his four-over spell.
Sunrisers collapse under KKR’s ruthless bowling
Chasing 201, SRH’s batting lineup crumbled under pressure. The top order failed to fire as Travis Head (4), Abhishek Sharma (2), and Ishan Kishan (2) departed cheaply, leaving SRH reeling at 8/3. Heinrich Klaasen tried to fight back with a quick 33 off 21 balls, supported by Kamindu Mendis, who scored 27. However, they failed to build a match-winning partnership.
With wickets tumbling at regular intervals, SRH were eventually bowled out for just 120 in 16.4 overs. KKR’s bowling unit was exceptional, with Varun Chakaravarthy (3/22) and Vaibhav Arora (3/29) wreaking havoc. Andre Russell chipped in with two wickets, while Harshit Rana and Narine took one each, ensuring SRH never found a foothold in the game.
