In a major development for Mumbai Indians (MI) fans, ace pacer Jasprit Bumrah has joined the squad ahead of their much-awaited IPL 2025 fixture against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) at the iconic Wankhede Stadium on Monday, April 7. The five-time champions announced his return through a rousing social media post titled “Ready to Roar,” sparking a wave of excitement and speculation among supporters.

The 31-year-old speedster had been undergoing rehabilitation at the BCCI’s Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru after sustaining a back injury during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in January. Due to the injury, he missed MI’s first four matches of the season.
Mumbai Indians have sorely missed their bowling spearhead, managing just one win—against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR)—while suffering defeats to Chennai Super Kings (CSK), Gujarat Titans (GT) and Lucknow Super Giants (LSG). In Bumrah’s absence, MI’s bowling attack has relied on experienced campaigners like Trent Boult and Deepak Chahar, along with uncapped bowlers Ashwani Kumar and Satyanarayan Raju, but with limited success.
Will Jasprit Bumrah play against RCB?
MI head coach Mahela Jayawardene has confirmed that Bumrah is available for selection and will feature in MI’s match against RCB at the Wankhede.
“He is available,” Jayawardene told reporters ahead of MI’s fifth game of the season. “He is training today, so he should be available tomorrow.”
Jayawardene added: “He arrived last night and I believe he had his sessions with NCA to finalise that. He has been handed over to our physios. So, yeah, it should be his bowling today. All good and he will play tomorrow.”

Bumrah: A game-changer for MI’s bowling unit
Bumrah’s return could be a season-defining moment for MI. Retained for a hefty ₹18 crore ahead of the 2022 IPL mega auction, Bumrah brings experience, accuracy and match-winning ability, with 165 IPL wickets to his name. His skill in the death overs, especially his signature yorkers, is expected to plug MI’s bowling leaks and improve their ability to defend challenging totals.
