The Arun Jaitley Stadium witnessed a rollercoaster of emotions last night as Delhi Capitals (DC) clinched a nail-biting victory over Rajasthan Royals (RR) in the Super Over, following a dramatic tie in Match 32 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. While the match provided edge-of-the-seat entertainment with both teams finishing on 188, a key talking point was the unfortunate and frustrating run-out of Delhi Capitals’ batter Karun Nair early in their innings.
Karun Nair vents out his frustration in the dressing room
Fresh off a scintillating knock of 89 in the previous game against Mumbai Indians (MI), expectations were high for Nair. However, his innings was cut short in the cruellest fashion – run out for a three-ball duck in the third over. The incident occurred off the bowling of Sandeep Sharma. Abishek Porel, Nair’s opening partner, attempted a pull shot off a length delivery, managing only an inside edge onto his thigh pad. The ball deflected towards the point region.
Porel initially called for a single, prompting Nair to respond quickly and set off. However, Porel changed his mind almost immediately, sending a frantic signal for Nair to return. By this point, Nair was committed and nearly halfway down the pitch. Sandeep ran after the ball collected it casually, taking a moment before relaying the throw towards the non-striker’s end where Wanindu Hasaranga was backing up. Despite the slight delay, the throw was accurate enough to catch Nair well short of his crease.
Visibly frustrated by the mix-up and the abrupt end to his innings, Nair shook his head in disbelief and gestured towards his partner before beginning the long, slow walk back to the pavilion. His frustration was caught by the cameraman in the dressing room. The top-order batter appeared visibly upset with the manner of his dismissal, expressing his anger by throwing punches in the air.

Delhi Capitals beat past Rajasthan Royals in the Super Over
Despite this early setback, Delhi Capitals managed to post a competitive total. Porel compensated for his role in the run-out with a well-compiled 49, narrowly missing out on a half-century. KL Rahul provided stability and impetus to the innings with a solid 38. Their contributions helped DC reach 188 for the loss of 5 wickets in their allotted 20 overs. For the Royals, Jofra Archer was the pick of the bowlers, claiming 2 wickets for 32 runs, while Hasaranga bowled economically, taking 1 for 38.
Rajasthan Royals, in response, mounted a formidable chase built around twin half-centuries. Openers Yashasvi Jaiswal and Nitish Rana both scored fluent half-centuries, laying a strong foundation and putting the pressure back on the Delhi bowlers. They navigated the powerplay effectively and kept the required run rate in check.
However, DC spinners, Axar Patel (1-23) and Kuldeep Yadav (1-33), bowled crucial spells in the middle overs, applying the brakes and picking up vital wickets. Their efforts ensured that the Royals couldn’t run away with the game, despite the strong start. The match ebbed and flowed, eventually culminating in a tense final over where Rajasthan managed to level the scores, finishing precisely on 188 for 4.
With the scores tied, the contest moved into a Super Over to decide the winner. Delhi Capitals managed to hold their nerve in the one-over eliminator, securing the crucial two points in front of their home crowd and concluding a truly memorable and dramatic encounter.
