Kolkata Knight Riders’ (KKR) explosive finisher in the Indian Premier League (IPL), Rinku Singh, who has become a fan-favourite with his fearless batting and finishing prowess, recently sat down in the latest Knight Club episode with Star Sports. The dynamic left-hander, who has played crucial roles in KKR’s success, revealed many interesting aspects of his cricketing journey, personal preferences, and insights into his teammates. From discussing the toughest bowler he has faced to his admiration for his cricketing idol, the KKR star shared many candid details about his life on and off the field.

The toughest bowler to face

When asked about the toughest bowler he has faced in his career so far, Rinku did not hesitate before naming India’s pace spearhead, Jasprit Bumrah. The left-handed batter acknowledged Bumrah’s exceptional ability to deceive batters with his unique action and variations.

“It seems tough, but Bumrah bhai is the one who is truly tough. I mean, can anyone play him well? If you do, you’ll still get some action. And in that same action, he bowls slower deliveries, and in that same action, he bowls bouncers. So, it’s really tough. His arm has a big advantage, which makes it difficult to read his deliveries,” Rinku said.

Rinku explained how Bumrah’s unorthodox action and variety of deliveries, including deceptive slower balls and well-disguised bouncers, make it extremely difficult for batters to read him. He admitted that Bumrah’s ability to deliver multiple variations from the same action makes him a nightmare for any batter, as the timing and execution become much trickier against him.

A burning question for Sunil Narine

Rinku, who has shared the dressing room with some of the biggest names in T20 cricket, also spoke about his curiosity regarding his KKR teammate Sunil Narine. When asked what one question he would like to ask the West Indian mystery spinner, Rinku came up with a rather amusing and heartfelt query.

“Yes, I just want to ask why he doesn’t look happy when he takes a wicket. He doesn’t even smile. I just want to ask that, that’s all,” the 27-year-old added.

Despite being one of the most lethal spinners in T20 cricket, Narine is known for his calm demeanor and rarely shows emotions on the field. Rinku found it fascinating that even after taking crucial wickets, Narine does not celebrate in a conventional manner. The KKR batter expressed his curiosity about whether Narine feels the excitement internally or if he has a unique way of handling success on the field.

One question to ask from KKR teammate Andre Russell

Another big name in the KKR squad, Andre Russell, is known for his incredible six-hitting ability and brute power. When asked what question he would ask Russell, Rinku responded that he wouldn’t necessarily ask him anything but would love to learn the art of hitting massive sixes.

“I won’t ask any questions, just that I want to learn a bit of hitting from him. He hits such long sixes, so I just want to learn that from him,” the explosive left-handed batter stated.

Rinku, who himself has delivered match-winning performances with his finishing abilities, acknowledged that Russell is one of the best power-hitters in world cricket. He expressed his desire to learn from the West Indian all-rounder and understand the technique, timing, and power behind those monstrous sixes that Russell often launches into the stands.

Nickname and tattoo connection

While many cricketers have famous nicknames given by their teammates or fans, Rinku Singh revealed that he hasn’t received a specific one yet. However, he mentioned that people often associate him with his tattoo, which reads “God’s Plan,”

“Well, no one has really given me a nickname, but people know me more because of the ‘God’s Plan’ tattoo I got. So, I guess many people recognize me because of that,” the Indian cricketer revealed.

The tattoo has a deep meaning for Rinku, symbolizing his journey, struggles, and belief in destiny. The KKR star has had a remarkable rise in cricket, and his tattoo serves as a reminder of his unwavering faith in his path.

Cricketing idol: Past and present

Every cricketer has an idol who inspires them, and for Rinku Singh, that person has always been former Indian cricketer Suresh Raina. The stylish left-hander, known for his explosive batting and outstanding fielding, has been a source of inspiration for Rinku throughout his career.

“Earlier, it was Raina bhai, and even now, it is Raina bhai whom I consider my idol,” Rinku reckoned.

Rinku stated that Raina was his cricketing idol when he started playing the game, and he still looks up to him. Raina’s aggressive batting, ability to handle pressure, and leadership qualities have left a lasting impact on Rinku’s cricketing journey.

Favourite food and bike

When it comes to food, Rinku admitted that Chicken Tikka Masala was once his absolute favorite. However, in recent times, he has made a shift towards a healthier diet, incorporating avocados into his meals.

“Chicken Tikka Masala, it used to be Chicken Tikka Masala, but now I eat avocados,” Rinku disclosed.

Rinku Singh has a passion for bikes and enjoys riding in his free time. He revealed that his first bike was a Honda Stunner, and now he owns a Royal Enfield Bullet, which remains his favorite ride.

“I had a Stunner, and now I have a Bullet,” the dynamic batter unfolded.

Favourite movie and actor: A love for Bollywood

Like many Indians, Rinku Singh is a big fan of Bollywood movies. His all-time favorite film is “Bhaag Milkha Bhaag,” which is based on the life of legendary Indian sprinter Milkha Singh. The movie, which showcases resilience and determination, deeply resonated with Rinku.

“Yes, my favorite movie is ‘Bhaag Milkha Bhaag,” Rinku confessed.

When it comes to actors, his admiration remains constant for Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan (SRK).

“Yes, earlier when I used to watch movies, I liked SRK, SRK sir. And even now, I still like SRK sir,” Rinku admitted.

Given that SRK is also the co-owner of Kolkata Knight Riders, Rinku’s admiration for the Bollywood legend extends beyond the silver screen.

Favourite pastime and dream destination

Rinku Singh admitted that cricket has always been his favorite pastime. However, with time, he has developed a new interest – watching YouTube vlogs.

“Yes, earlier I used to play only cricket. And no, I still play cricket. But now, I have developed a new fascination for YouTube, and I keep watching vlogs,” Rinku said.

Finally, when asked about his dream travel destination, Rinku revealed that he has always wanted to visit Norway.

“Yes, earlier I used to travel here and there in Delhi, but now I want to go to Norway,” Rinku concluded.
