Indian Premier League (IPL) is not just about fierce competition; it’s also a celebration of camaraderie and sportsmanship. This was evident ahead of the much-anticipated clash between Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and Gujarat Titans (GT) at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, as Virat Kohli warmly embraced his former teammate Mohammed Siraj. The reunion between the two cricketing stars highlighted the emotional bonds forged during their time together at RCB.
Virat Kohli and Mohammed Siraj’s reunion full of emotion
Siraj, who spent seven seasons with RCB, returned to the Chinnaswamy Stadium wearing different colours this time. Having been acquired by Gujarat Titans for INR 12.25 crore during the IPL mega auction, this match marks Siraj’s first appearance against RCB since his departure. Despite being on opposing sides, Siraj’s interaction with Kohli and other RCB staff was a touching moment that captured the essence of mutual respect and friendship.
In a video shared by RCB, Siraj was seen exchanging hugs with Kohli and engaging in friendly banter with the coaching staff. This reunion was not just a nostalgic moment but also a testament to the deep bond between the two players, forged through years of shared victories and challenges on the field.

Kohli’s role in Siraj’s journey
Siraj has often credited Kohli for playing a pivotal role in his cricketing career. Speaking to ANI recently, Siraj acknowledged Kohli’s unwavering support during his difficult years in 2018 and 2019. “Virat backed me during my bad times, retained me when I wasn’t performing well, and gave me confidence to improve my game,” Siraj said.
Under Kohli’s captaincy at RCB, Siraj evolved into one of the franchise’s most dependable bowlers, claiming 83 wickets in 87 matches at an average of 31.45. Leaving RCB was an emotional decision for Siraj, who described it as bittersweet. While he now leads GT’s pace attack, he remains grateful for Kohli’s mentorship and support throughout his career.
RCB to face of GT at home in IPL 2025
As both teams prepare for their showdown, the stakes are high. RCB has made an impressive start to IPL 2025 under new captain Rajat Patidar, securing two consecutive wins against Kolkata Knight Riders and Chennai Super Kings. With Kohli also in fine form, scoring 59 not out and 31 in his first two matches, RCB sit atop the points table and looks determined to finally clinch their maiden IPL title.
On the other hand, Gujarat have had a mixed start to their campaign. After losing their opener against Punjab Kings by 11 runs, they bounced back with a convincing victory over Mumbai Indians. Mohammed played a crucial role in GT’s win against MI, showcasing his skill as their lead pacer. While Kohli and Siraj share a strong friendship off the field, their rivalry on April 2 promises to be intense.
