In Match 32 of the IPL 2025 between Delhi Capitals and Rajasthan Royals, RR skipper Sanju Samson gave his team a blistering start while chasing a competitive target of 189. Right from the first over, Samson looked in sublime touch, dispatching the DC bowlers to all corners of the ground. Whether it was pace or spin, Samson showed no signs of hesitation, playing aggressive yet controlled cricket to put the pressure back on the Capitals.
Samson took on every opportunity to score freely and looked well on course for a big knock. His clean striking lifted the dugout and fans alike, especially when he hammered boundaries with effortless timing. The highlight of his early onslaught came during the final over of the powerplay, when he went after left-arm spinner Vipraj Nigam with a four and a six to start the over.
Why Sanju Samson walked off midway despite being in top form
Just when it seemed like Samson would anchor the Royals’ chase deep into the innings, the crowd was left stunned as the skipper hobbled off the field. The incident occurred in the 6th over of the chase, bowled by Vipraj. After smashing a four and a six on the first two deliveries, Samson looked to slash hard at the third ball but missed.
Immediately after the shot attempt, Samson looked visibly uncomfortable and began clutching his side. He appeared to have suffered a sudden side strain around his hip or rib area. The physio rushed in and attended to him, but the discomfort was clearly growing. On the next delivery, Samson drilled the ball straight to long-off but chose not to run, clearly in pain and barely able to walk. Realizing he couldn’t continue, Samson made the difficult decision to leave the field retired hurt, bringing his explosive innings to an abrupt halt.

Samson’s impactful knock in the game
Despite not being able to continue, Sanju Samson had already made a major impact on the game. He smashed 31 runs off just 19 deliveries, which included 2 boundaries and 3 towering sixes. His innings not only gave RR a solid platform in the powerplay but also shifted the momentum firmly in their favour early in the chase.
While his retirement hurt will concern RR fans and team management, there’s no denying the value Samson added with his aggressive strokeplay. His form and fitness will now be closely monitored ahead of Rajasthan’s upcoming fixtures in IPL 2025.
