Rajasthan Royals (RR) Head Coach, Rahul Dravid recently addressed the concerns regarding captain Sanju Samson’s injury and potential return in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. The right-hand wicketkeeper Samson encountered an abdominal injury during team’s match against Delhi Capitals(DC) last week, which eventually led to his absence in RR’s match against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG).

Rajasthan Royals head coach Rahul Dravid clears air on Sanju Samson’s participation against RCB
RR’s head coach Dravid has made it clear that Sanju will miss team’s outing against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) on Thursday, as he is not declared fit by the medical team. Furthermore, Samson won’t be accompanying the team, with the management focusing on his improvement and potential return to the lineup.
Addressing pre-match press conference Dravid said “Sanju, I think picked up a bit of a side issue in the game against DC and he could not play the last match or this one either. He wasn’t fit and our medical team didn’t clear him to play.”
“So, we took the medical advice not to risk him with further travel-two more flights would’ve been a strain. We kept the physio back with him so we could treat him and try to get him back as quickly as possible. We’re monitoring his recovery on a day-to-day basis” Dravid concluded.
RR’s IPL 2025 campaign hits crisis mode ahead of RCB clash
The Royals’ campaign in IPL 2025 has veered dramatically off course, with just 2 wins from 8 matches, placing them in a precarious position on the points table. The team is now in desperate need of a turnaround as their playoff hopes hang by a thread. Their recent form has been particularly disheartening, losing their last four matches, including a Super Over heartbreak against DC and a last-over thriller against LSG, both of which were matches they largely had under control.
To make matters worse, the injury to skipper Sanju Samson adds another concern, robbing the side of both leadership and middle-order solidity. As they head to the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium for a crucial do-or-die clash against RCB, RR will need nothing short of a spirited, all-round performance to stay alive in the competition. The pressure is mounting, and the time to respond is now.
