In a major development ahead of the 10th edition of the Pakistan Super League (PSL), the Karachi Kings have fortified their coaching setup by bringing in former Australian speedster Shaun Tait as their new assistant and fast bowling coach.
Coaching revamp and leadership shift
The franchise made the official announcement on April 6 through its social media channels, sharing a promotional banner that read: “Speed meets strategy! Shaun Tait joins #KingsSquad as Assistant and Fast Bowling Coach for #HBLPSLX.”

Known for his lightning-fast deliveries and fiery spells during his playing days, Tait will now turn his focus to mentoring a fresh crop of pace bowlers in the Kings’ squad. He joins a revamped coaching panel led by newly appointed head coach Ravi Bopara, the former England all-rounder, who replaces Phil Simmons after just one season in charge.
The Kings’ management is clearly making bold moves to change their fortunes after underwhelming performances in recent editions. Alongside Tait’s appointment, Muhammad Masroor has been handed expanded duties as the franchise’s High-Performance Coach, further reinforcing the technical backbone of the team.
Adding to the shake-up is a leadership switch on the field, with veteran Australian opener David Warner set to lead the Kings in his maiden PSL appearance. Warner replaces Shan Masood as captain and brings with him a wealth of international experience and a reputation for aggressive, high-impact cricket.
Karachi Kings’ campaign in PSL 2025
The upcoming PSL 10 season, scheduled from April 11 to May 18, promises thrilling cricket with 34 matches slated across three cities: Karachi, Lahore, and Rawalpindi. Karachi Kings will kick off their campaign on April 12 at their home ground, the National Bank Stadium, against Multan Sultans.
Both Tait and Bopara arrived in Pakistan earlier this week to finalize the team’s preparations. Their presence marks a significant phase in the Kings’ pre-season planning, with an emphasis on strengthening the pace battery — an area that has seen inconsistency over the past few seasons.

This season also sees a structural balance in venue distribution: 13 matches, including both eliminators and the grand final, will be hosted at Lahore’s Gaddafi Stadium, with the rest split between Rawalpindi and Karachi. The Kings, with several matches on home turf, will look to exploit the familiar conditions.
With an experienced leadership duo in Warner and Bopara, and Tait’s fast bowling insight, Karachi Kings are eyeing a strong comeback in PSL 2025. The franchise, crowned champions in 2020, hopes to replicate that success with renewed energy and a strategic focus on pace and power.
