The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 has entered the middle phase and one question has dominated conversations among cricket fans: who is the best wicketkeeper in this star-studded tournament? With names like Rishabh Pant, Sanju Samson, and Ishan Kishan lighting up the field, the competition behind the stumps has been fierce.
Yet, South African wicketkeeping legend and former Mumbai Indians (MI) head coach Mark Boucher has stirred the pot with a bold claim, naming one player as the standout performer in the IPL 2025 season.
Mark Boucher picks the best wicketkeeper of IPL 2025
Boucher, a cricketing icon known for his sharp wicketkeeping and no-nonsense approach, didn’t hold back when discussing KL Rahul’s contributions to the Delhi Capitals (DC) in IPL 2025. In a media interaction, Boucher lauded Rahul’s dual role as a wicketkeeper and batter, emphasizing his technical prowess and game awareness.
Boucher emphasized a recent comment by Rahul about how keeping helps him gather valuable insights that benefit his batting. He clarified that while MS Dhoni’s legacy is exceptional, his focus is on future prospects, and Rahul fits that role perfectly.

“If you look at IPL — I am not talking about MS Dhoni here, as we are talking about the future — one player who has been sound with his ‘keeping and (has) batted ready well is KL Rahul,” said Boucher.
“He has played some fantastic innings. He made a comment the other night I could relate to. He said when he keeps it, he picks up a lot of information that he can use in his batting. He would be the standout keeper-batter in the IPL,” added Boucher.
A stellar IPL 2025 campaign
Rahul’s performances in IPL 2025 have been nothing short of spectacular, justifying Boucher’s glowing praise. Playing for the Delhi Capitals, Rahul has been a linchpin in the team’s batting lineup while maintaining a high standard of wicketkeeping. In 4 matches, Rahul has scored 200 runs at an impressive average of 66.67 and a strike rate of 163.93.
