In a major boost for the Pakistan Super League (PSL), Australian cricket icon David Warner is officially set to make his long-awaited debut in the 2025 season. Warner will not only play for Karachi Kings but will also take on the leadership role as the team’s captain. The Kings are scheduled to face Mohammad Rizwan’s Multan Sultans in what promises to be a blockbuster encounter.
David Warner moves from the IPL to PSL
Warner, widely regarded as one of the most destructive T20 batters of his generation, had never previously featured in the PSL due to a demanding international schedule. However, with his recent retirement from international cricket, the path has finally cleared for the explosive left-hander to participate in the league.
The Karachi side moved quickly to secure Warner’s services following his exit from the Indian Premier League (IPL). Delhi Capitals released the veteran opener ahead of the IPL 2025 auction, leaving fans speculating about his next move. His decision to join the PSL has since become one of the biggest talking points in the cricketing world.
Warner debunks Pakistani reporter for a bizarre question
During his first press conference as captain of the Karachi Kings, Warner responded to a barrage of questions, but one query in particular stood out. A journalist asked him about the hatred faced from Indian fans following his PSL signing after going unsold in the mega IPL auction.

With trademark composure, Warner responded, “This is the first I’ve heard of it. From where I stand, I want to play cricket. There’s a chance to come to the PSL now. My international duties never overlapped with the PSL calendar earlier. Now, I get the opportunity to play, be the captain of the Karachi Kings, and hopefully lift the trophy.”
Warner’s presence adds immense value to the PSL, not only in terms of performance but also by increasing global viewership and fan interest.
“For my perspective, it’s about playing cricket, and it’s an opportunity for me to come to PSL. Before this, the international calendar didn’t allow me to come here due to the timings,” Warner added.
Cricket pundits believe Warner’s addition could be a game-changer for the franchise and the league as a whole. His vast T20 experience, including in the IPL, Big Bash League (BBL, and international matches, will be crucial for Karachi Kings as they aim for PSL glory in 2025.
