The Indian Premier League (IPL) has witnessed some of the most breathtaking performances in T20 cricket history. From match-winning knocks to magical spells, the tournament has become a breeding ground for unforgettable cricketing moments. But recently, a former cricketing great made a bold claim — labelling one specific innings as the greatest individual performance in the entire history of the IPL.
Shaun Pollock names the greatest individual performance in IPL
That declaration came from none other than Shaun Pollock, the legendary South African fast bowler and former captain. Speaking during an analysis show on Cricbuzz, Pollock stunned viewers by singling out a teenager’s explosive century as the most remarkable IPL performance he’s ever seen.
He was, of course, referring to Vaibhav Suryavanshi, the Rajasthan Royals’ young left-hander who created history in IPL 2025 with a jaw-dropping hundred against Gujarat Titans. His knock — 101 off just 38 balls — left the cricketing world speechless.
“For me, this is the greatest individual performance ever in the IPL. It has to be. I mean, a 14-year-old to go out there, smash it around, and get a hundred off 35 balls,” Pollock said with conviction.
Vaibhav’s incredible feat brings out humour of Pollock
In classic Pollock style, the former pacer added a touch of humour while applauding Vaibhav’s incredible feat.
“I honestly thought corporal punishment for kids was done and dusted. Well, he’s just come out as a school and handed some serious corporal punishment today,” he joked, referring to the dominance the teenager showed against seasoned professionals.
Pollock didn’t stop there. He highlighted the generational gap between Vaibhav and the players he demolished.
“Some of these players have been playing IPL for four years before he was even born. And he just walked out and completely dictated terms,” the Proteas legend added.
