Delhi Capitals, showing composure under pressure, emerged victorious in the one-over eliminator, adding yet another memorable chapter to their Super Over record.

With this win, DC now hold the record for the most Super Over wins in IPL history, surpassing all other franchises. Let’s take a look at the top five teams who have mastered the art of the Super Over and registered most number of wins.

5 teams with most wins in the Super Over

5. Royal Challengers Bengaluru – 2 wins

RCB, a team that has often entertained fans with thrilling encounters, have registered two wins in Super Overs. Be it with the bat or ball, players like AB de Villiers, Virat Kohli, and others have stepped up in high-stakes situations. While they still chase their maiden IPL title, their ability to compete in tight matches is never in doubt.

They featured in their first-ever Super Over clash on April 7, 2013, against Sunrisers Hyderabad, where Dale Steyn’s brilliance guided SRH to a thrilling victory. Later that same season, RCB found themselves in another Super Over battle—this time against Delhi Capitals (then known as Delhi Daredevils). On that occasion, RCB held their composure and emerged victorious. Seven years later, they registered their second Super Over win, defeating Mumbai Indians in a nail-biter in Dubai during the 2020 season.

4. Rajasthan Royals – 2 wins

Rajasthan Royals have also tasted success in two Super Overs. Their ability to fight till the end and rely on explosive batters who make them dangerous in such tight contests. Although they fell short in the recent clash against DC, the Royals have built a reputation for taking games down to the wire.

The Royals, infact, played the first-ever Super Over in IPL history back in 2009. In Capetown against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), Yusuf Pathan broke the IPL’s first tie and with it KKR’ hearts through clean hitting in the Super Over, to chase down 16 runs in four deliveries. Interestingly, RR’s second Super Over clash also came against KKR in 2014 and they yet again managed to register a win.

3. Mumbai Indians – 2 wins

Mumbai Indians (MI), one of the most successful franchises in IPL history with five titles, have also managed to win two Super Overs. With a team full of match-winners like Jasprit Bumrah, Rohit Sharma, and Suryakumar Yadav, MI know how to bring out their best when the pressure is at its peak.

Their tactical brilliance and experience often help them come out on top in crunch moments—even in the shortest version of the shortest format. Their first Super Over victory came in 2017 against Gujarat Lions (GL) in Rajkot. Two years later, in 2019, Mumbai secured another thrilling win in a nail-biting Super Over contest against Sunrisers Hyderabad.

Their famous double Super Over win against Mumbai Indians in IPL 2020 still remains a fan favorite. With aggressive finishers and reliable death bowlers like Arshdeep Singh, Punjab has managed to edge out teams in nerve-wracking finales on multiple occasions.

Although they haven’t yet clinched an IPL title, their performance in Super Overs is a testament to their never-say-die spirit and unpredictability. Their first brush with the Super Over came in 2010 against Chennai Super Kings (CSK), where they secured a memorable win. The second Super Over victory followed in 2015 when they edged past Rajasthan. In 2020, PBKS famously featured in a double Super Over thriller against Mumbai Indians, clinching their third triumph in such contests. However, earlier that same season, they faced Delhi Capitals in another Super Over encounter but ended up on the losing side.

This consistent success in Super Overs reflects their strategic depth and adaptability. After their 2019 win, Delhi Capitals secured their second Super Over victory in 2020 against Punjab Kings.
