The 28th match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 unfolded at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur on April 13, featuring a high-octane clash between Rajasthan Royals (RR) and Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB). RCB’s skipper Rajat Patidar won the toss and opted to bowl first, eyeing early breakthroughs on a fresh surface that promised some assistance to the bowlers.
While the Royals started cautiously, losing no wickets in the powerplay, the turning point came right at the end of the seventh over—an over that not only broke the opening partnership but also showcased Krunal Pandya’s cricketing intelligence.
Krunal Pandya webs struggling Sanju Samson for a cheap score
Sanju Samson, RR’s ever-reliable captain and gloveman, looked to steady the innings after a quiet powerplay. But on the fifth ball of the seventh over, he fell victim to a clever piece of bowling by Pandya—an instance of craft outwitting class.
Pandya tossed one up outside off, a delivery that kept unexpectedly low after pitching. Samson, trying to up the scoring rate, stepped out looking to heave it over the infield. The ball skidded under his bat, and by the time he realized he’d missed it, it was far too late. Wicketkeeper Jitesh Sharma did the rest, whipping off the bails with Samson stranded halfway down the track.
Samson walked back for a scratchy 15 off 19 balls, with just a solitary boundary to his name and a strike rate under 80. His dismissal at 6.5 overs left RR at 49/1 and gave RCB just the momentum they needed to tighten the screws in the middle overs.

Yashasvi Jaiswal’s flourish and a balanced finish to RR innings
Despite the early blow, Yashasvi Jaiswal carried the innings with maturity and aggression. Playing delightful drives and lofted shots, Jaiswal brought up a well-paced half-century off 35 balls. His knock of 75 from 47 balls, including 10 fours and 2 sixes, was instrumental in pushing the Royals to a competitive score.
Riyan Parag chipped in with a quick 30 off 22 before falling to Yash Dayal, while Dhruv Jurel ensured that the innings didn’t fizzle out toward the end. Jurel’s composed 35* (23) added some vital runs, as RR reached a strong position at the end of the first innings and scored 173/4.
