Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) suffered a six-wicket defeat against Delhi Capitals (DC) in a thrilling IPL 2025 encounter at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, but it was Virat Kohli’s heated exchange regarding captaincy decisions that stole the spotlight.

RCB’s batting struggles set the tone

Delhi Capitals won the toss and elected to bowl, putting RCB’s formidable batting lineup under early pressure. Despite a promising start from openers Phil Salt (37 off 22) and Kohli (22 off 14), RCB faltered after losing their top three inside the powerplay. Chasing 164, DC faced early hiccups, losing their top order for just 30 runs. However, KL Rahul‘s composed match-winning knock, supported by Tristan Stubbs‘ aggressive strokeplay, turned the tide. DC chased down the target with four balls to spare, consolidating their position at the top of the IPL 2025 points table, while RCB slipped to third.

Virat Kohli’s frustration boils over Rajat Patidar’s captaincy moves

The eye-catching moment came when cameras caught Kohli in an animated discussion with RCB batting coach and mentor Dinesh Karthik. It appeared Kohli was visibly upset with certain tactical calls made by skipper Patidar, particularly around bowling changes and field placements. Kohli, known for his passion and leadership, appeared to question Patidar’s decision to delay the introduction of key bowlers like Josh Hazlewood, which allowed DC’s middle order to seize control.

At one point, Kohli appeared to express his displeasure quite openly, seemingly urging Patidar to bring the fielders inside the circle. This came as Delhi Capitals batters were comfortably rotating the strike and picking up easy singles, putting pressure on the RCB bowling unit.
